Too Much Chocolate
I’m in Hershey, PA, for a conference, and am astonished to find that there is a such thing as Too Much Chocolate. You smell it everywhere. The streetlights are shaped like Hershey’s Kisses. You get a chocolate bar when you check in. More Kisses on the room-number plaques. And the wallpaper (see photo). I think it would be dangerous to bring M&Ms to this town….
Fourteen February Songs
I came, I saw, I FAWMed. The songs aren’t perfect. Some are pretty rough, others are better than I expected, and some were completely unexpected. But they’re 14 songs that didn’t exist when this month began.

Are we really back to this again?
I was definitely voting with my head rather than my heart when I pulled the lever for Hillary Clinton. Now my heart is starting to tell my head, “I told you so!”
Decision at last
I voted for Hillary. Obama may have a better chance of winning, but she’d be a better president. We don’t need new ideas right now, we need old ones like competency, intelligence and morals. Hopefully I haven’t made a Nadir choice. Whoever wins, though, I hope it’s thoroughly decisive so we can get going on the real challenge.
(Oh, and the poll workers said turnout was surprisingly high, which is encouraging.)
Second day, second song
Today’s FAWM song is “Plastic Bags,” a song I’ve wanted to write for some time. There are plenty of examples of wasteful excess in American culture, but few more ludicrous than carrying a box of plastic trash bags home in a plastic grocery bag that you’re going to wad up and throw out in one of the new trash bags you just bought.
(Oh, and here’s the article in The New York Times that got me writing this morning.)
